ADELANTE Programme: Triangular Cooperation European Union and Latin America & the Caribbean

Academic, scientific and technological cooperation agreement on sericulture between INTI and the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires.

The National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) and the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA) signed an academic, scientific and technological cooperation agreement on sericulture.

INTI, the coordinating institution of the Silk Project co-financed by the European Union through the ADELANTE program, established complementary and cooperative relationships in the field of sericulture with FAUBA to achieve one of its planned objectives: to improve access to critical inputs for sericulture production in Latin America.

FAUBA has a Sericulture Laboratory from which it distributes eggs and silkworm larvae on a non-profit basis and, through the celebration of the agreement, it will be able to expand its breeding shed to become a multiplier center for eggs so that silk producers have quality genetic material.

The objective of the Silk Project is to achieve sustainable economic growth and an improvement in the quality of life of the rural populations of the LAC region, based on the production and cultivation of the silkworm, and the optimization and innovation in technical and organizational capacities of the research centers that will be built in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico.
