ADELANTE Programme: Triangular Cooperation European Union Latin America and the Caribbean

On 2 August 2019, the first Emprendetón in the Dominican Republic was held in the city of Santo Domingo, with the participation of more than 150 entrepreneurs who, through a playful competition by teams, learned to identify opportunities, ideas and business models, to make prototypes, to test their ideas in the market and to deliver effective presentations when it comes to getting funding for their projects.

This event was held within the framework of the Entrepreneurship and Business Development in Mesoamerica - EDEM Project, a triangular cooperation initiative involving the European Union with the ADELANTE programme, Colombian entities that transfer the tools for strengthening entrepreneurship, and Mesoamerican entities including the Dominican Republic, which receive the transfer, coordinated by the Colombian International Cooperation Agency (APC Colombia).

Emprendetón is a good tool to strengthen the entrepreneurial mentality and culture, created by Innpulsa Colombia as an entity in charge of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in this country and who transfers this methodology to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSEs (Ministerio de industria Comercio y Miypes - MICM) of the Dominican Republic, to strengthen Mesoamerica's competitiveness as the main objective of the EDEM project.

During the Emprendetón event, Dominican entrepreneurs of various ages, training and professional experience had the opportunity to interact among themselves and with thirty-five national and international mentors, who were responsible for guiding participants in each stage of the undertaking, which helped those present break down the fears and myths around the subject. The first DR Emprendetón was also supported by the CREE Banreservas entrepreneurship Programme, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) and the Corazones a Tiempo Foundation.
