ADELANTE Programme: Triangular Cooperation European Union Latin America and the Caribbean

A few days ago, the Mirada Ciudadana Project, which is part of the Adelante Programme, carried out various activities, training sessions and fruitful meetings in several Paraguayan municipalities, in which its coordinator, Mrs Lucy Larrosa, participated, together with part of the technical team of the project.

Fulfilling an extensive agenda, the Mirada Ciudadana Project moved to the Department of Alto Paraná, Paraguay, about 400 km from Asunción. There, an important activity was carried out with the Mayor of the Municipality of Hernandarias, his team and the Development Agency of the area (ADIRI).

At this meeting, the requests from the Municipality for technical support were discussed, as well as the opportunities for international cooperation. The Mayor expressed his interest in incorporating his municipality into the project and participating in training and political dialogue activities.

The Hernandarias Development Agency (ADIRI) showed its willingness to promote the integration of the public and private sectors, and generate spaces for exchange and coordination. They highlighted the fundamental role that the Mirada Ciudadana Project would play in this regard.

Continuing with the activities, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the Government of Alto Paraná, Dr. José L. Ayala Dávalos, who confirmed the institution's interest in carrying out training activities and supporting coordination with the 20 municipalities in the region.  At the meeting held with the cabinet of secretaries, it was agreed to start with the formulation of projects and to carry out an activity of the municipalities with the Directorate for the Environment.

Later on, the Mirada Ciudadana delegation went the Municipality of Mbaracayú, which had expressed its interest in having the project's experts present on its territory. In the morning, work was done to identify priorities and main lines of action with municipal leaders, municipal councillors, representatives of the indigenous community, educational centres and business people, among others.

In the afternoon, the delegation travelled to an indigenous community, made up of 190 families, to learn about their reality and analyse the challenges they face in order to improve their quality of life, while respecting their values and without altering their traditions.

Women Entrepreneurs of the Presidente Franco District

Within the framework of the Mirada Ciudadana action in Presidente Franco, an agreement was reached with the Universidad Privada del Este (UPE), to provide support and technical assistance to the various groups of women entrepreneurs in the area.

There are 26 groups of women who produce fabric crafts, but face weaknesses in design, product finishing, business plan and sales management, among other issues. These will be the points on which the UPE will work, supporting these women for free, strengthening them through the contribution of knowledge.

The work done with these women is an initiative supported by the Mayor of Presidente Franco, Engineer Roque Godoy, who actively participated in the activity carried out with these groups.
