Second United Nations Conference On South-South And Triangular Cooperation, PABA +40.

The Argentine Republic will host the "Second High Level Conference of the United Nations on South-South Cooperation" between March 20 and 22, 2019.

The High Level Conference was convened by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) through Resolution 71/244, by which the Argentine Republic was designated as the host country. On August 30, 2017, the UNGA adopted the so-called "Modalities Resolution", in which it resolved that said Conference:

  • It will be held at the highest possible level, including Heads of State or Government.
  • It will consist of plenary sessions, interactive round tables and a closing plenary session.
  • It will have as a result in a final document agreed intergovernmentally. That document will be concise and specific and will be prepared with a vision for the future and oriented towards action.

The theme chosen for the Conference is "The role of South-South Cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: challenges and opportunities".

The objective of the Conference will be to examine the trends of South-South Cooperation and triangular cooperation, including the progress made by the international community in supporting and promoting these cooperation modalities and identifying new opportunities, as well as the existing challenges and suggestions to overcome them.

The Conference will convene more than 1200 representatives of all States Members of the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, programs, funds and specialized agencies of the United Nations System, multilateral development banks, civil society organizations, universities, philanthropic foundations, think thanks and representatives of the private sector.

Within this framework, the General Directorate of International Cooperation will coordinate an exhibition that will be held in parallel with the scheduled activities of the Conference with the purpose of generating a space that favors the generation of new contact networks as well as to strengthen the existing alliances in subject of South-South and triangular cooperation.

The exhibition was designed so that different countries, agencies, organizations and non-governmental organizations could also disseminate their initiatives, projects and good practices in the field of South-South and triangular cooperation.
