The Regional Project Strengthening Restorative Justice, funded by the European Union, with the support of Marisol Barboza Rodríguez of the Edgar Cervantes Villalta Judicial School of the Costa Rican Judicial Branch, held a workshop on the design of training for the restorative approach to issues involving indigenous people.

The activity was held from 9 to 13 September 2019, in Toluca, Mexico, with the participation of the Delegation of the Judicial Branches of Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico, who shared their experiences in Restorative Justice, methodological design by skills and indigenous issues. This exchange allowed for innovative contributions in each of the partner countries.

Mr. Esteban Bartolomé, Expert in indigenous peoples in the State of Mexico and a member of the Mazahua people, participated in the exchange. Participants also visited the Intercultural University of the State of Mexico. All of this allowed them to broaden their knowledge of the indigenous world view, in order to achieve a curricular design that respects the original uses and customs.

The designed training will be given to judicial staff from Costa Rica, Colombia and the State of Mexico in November 2019, as another activity of the present project.
