For some time now, training has been provided in improving the quality and techniques of products made by women artisans from various municipalities and localities in the department. It has been initiated and encouraged by both the Coordinadora de Municipios and the Mirada Ciudadana Project, whose leaders came up with the proposal and hired the teacher responsible for it.

The teacher in charge of the training, Mrs Victoria Portantier, spoke about the content of the workshops and said that this training was aimed at improving the handling of puff pastry, cakes, pastries, chocolates, yeast doughs and preserves.

The training consists of a total of 8 sessions of 8 hours of workshop. In each session, between 8 and 12 tasks are elaborated.

A total of 39 women take part in the workshops: 20 in Rio Branco (belonging to Rio Branco, Lago Merin, Poblado Uruguay) and 19 in Melo; they meet at the UTU premises and come from the areas of Paso Pereira, Fraile, Cerro de las Cuentas, Tupambaé, Arbolito, Ramón Trigo, Bañado de Medina, and Arroyo Malo.

According to Portantier, these women, who produce handmade food products, value this training and recognize the need to continue their learning; and there are more people willing to attend the training.
