The Strengthen Restorative Justice Regional Project, led by the Costa Rican Judiciary, which is being implemented in conjunction with the Colombian and Mexican Judiciaries, and financed by the European Union's ADELANTE Programme, started in February 2017 and ended yesterday with the presentation of the redesigned Restorative Justice website and the results report.

Mr. Rafael Segura Bonilla, Magistrate of the Criminal Cassation Chamber and Coordinator of the Restorative Justice Programme of Costa Rica, presented the results of the Project, emphasizing "that the most important thing is that the actions were not simply on paper, but that they are reflected in the users, who have access to a faster, more humane and comprehensive process, where the victims really achieve their recovery, while the accused are integrated into society in a positive way."

Also present were Mr. Jaime Salazar Hernández, representing the President of the Mexican State Judiciary, Mr. Max Alejandro Flórez Rodríguez, President of the Judiciary Council of the Judicial Branch of Colombia, and Ms. Antonia Calvo Puerta, Ambassador of the European Union to Costa Rica.

During the same activity, Mr. Juan Diego Oviedo Víquez from the Information Technology Directorate of the Costa Rican Judiciary presented the redesigned Costa Rican Restorative Justice Website.

Two victims also participated, expressing their satisfaction at having the opportunity to resolve the conflict through Restorative Justice, thanks to which they were kindly attended, the whole process was explained to them and the conflict was resolved in an appropriate manner.

The main objective of the project was to strengthen restorative justice in criminal and juvenile justice matters, with special emphasis on minors, women, sentenced persons and indigenous people, through triangular cooperation.
